Many people are accustomed to getting a cup of coffee or tea in the morning. A shot of caffeine gives you an energy boost to power you through the morning. With time, the body becomes tolerant of the caffeine, and you need two or more cups of tea to get a buzz. Instead of drowning yourself in liquid every morning, consider making some marijuana tea, and one mug will suffice. You will marvel at the difference a dash of marijuana will bring.
Marijuana tea is suited for people who want to consume cannabis without vaping or smoking. If you have an important meeting ahead and don’t want to stain your breath with marijuana smoke, opt for tea.
Why Tea?
Marijuana tea works like other cannabis edibles only that unlike cakes and cookies, the marijuana is infused in a liquid. Weed tea is preferred by people who do not consume sugar, gluten, and fatty ingredients used to make baked goods. Weed tea also allows you to make the beverage yourself instead of buying some from a marijuana dealership. Whatever your reason, making marijuana tea at home puts you in charge of your buzz, which is incredible.
When drinking your tea, exercise the caution you do with other edibles. Be careful with the dosage. Edibles have a delayed effect but tend to hit a little harder than vaping and smoking. If you take too much tea or make it too concentrated, your chill morning may take a turn for the worst. Most people who over-consumed edibles say that it results in a dreadful experience. You may have a headache, feel dizzy, or become paranoid, among other effects.
Marijuana Tea Dosage
The potency of your tea will depend on the potency, or THC content, of the weed you are using. You may go as high or as low as you want; only choose the strain that best suits you. When determining the potency of your tea, the rule of thumb is to add a zero at the end of the THC concentration indicated on your cannabis buds. The number you derive will be a rough estimate of the amount of THC in your mug of tea, in milligrams. Let’s say you put a gram of 15% THC weed in your tea. The resultant concentration will be that you have 150 milligrams of THC in your tea. However, the rule is not cast in stone; other factors come into play. Use it to help you maintain a safe or workable dose.
Making Marijuana Tea
You need about 20 minutes to prepare your tea. You cannot just dump some marijuana in a cup and start sipping. Do so only if you don’t mind some soggy buds that don’t get you high. There are a few steps to take. Don’t be alarmed, though. It’s not that difficult.
Using Ground Cannabis
What you need:
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil or unsalted butter
- 4 cups water
- 1 gram ground cannabis
- 1 tea bag
- Strainer or cheesecloth
- Other ingredients you prefer like cinnamon, honey, milk, or sugar
- A mug and a spoon
This recipe makes about three regular-sized cups of tea. Let each person take only one cup of tea, and avoid driving or operating heavy machinery in two hours.
Method:
- On medium heat, bring the four cups of water to a boil. Once it starts bubbling, add the tablespoon of coconut oil or butter. Allow it to boil and ultimately dissolve. The oil and butter provide a surface onto which THC sticks.
- Add the gram of weed into the boiling water and bring the heat down a little so that it simmers. Give this 15 minutes. Experienced stoners simmer the cannabis for a more extended period, with very little heat. Besides extracting more THC, this process preserves the flavour of the weed. Terpenes burn easily when the temperatures are too high in too little time.
- After about 20 minutes, strain out the cannabis. Get a glass jar or a teapot, and secure the cheesecloth or strainer at the top. Use a string or rubber band to ensure that it sticks firmly. Being careful not to spill the hot water, pour it onto the cheesecloth or strainer. The strainer should have very fine holes so that it can catch even the smallest cannabis bits.
- Insert your tea bag into the jar or teapot. You may also add any desired flavours, including honey, lemon, mint, or cinnamon. Give it five minutes and stir well. The flavours help to bring down the herby marijuana flavour.
- Take out the tea bag and cinnamon stick. Stir the remainder in the jar, briskly, until the butter infuses thoroughly. Pour some tea into your cup and enjoy it.
- Some people add milk and sugar to help balance out the weed flavour. The flavour may not fade out entirely, though.
Using Cannabis Butter or Oil
What you need:
- 1 teaspoon cannabis butter or oil
- 1 tea bag
- 1 cup of water
- Other ingredients you prefer like cinnamon, honey, milk, or sugar
- A teaspoon and a mug
Method:
- Put the teaspoon of cannabis butter in your tea mug.
- Add the tea bag
- Set your cup of water on the stove and bring it to a boil
- Pour the boiling water inside the mug. Stir all the contents briskly with a spoon until all the oil or butter dissolves.
- Add your favourite ingredients, like a cinnamon stick or honey inside the mug, and let it sit for a bit. The flavours cancel out the aroma and taste of the cannabis butter.
- Take out the tea bag. You may also take out the cinnamon stick if you wish
- Taste and see if you like the taste and flavour. You may want to add some more ingredients. While you may not completely cancel out the marijuana flavour, other ingredients help make the tea more enjoyable.
Closing Thoughts
Your body digests the tea like any other edible. Depending on your metabolism and what you ate last, it may take up to an hour for you to feel any effects.
